Does The Soul Exist?
Some people may say that if you die, you rot. And that would be the end.
I’m not saying that this is wrong. This certainly is a possibility.
However, we must always note that science is just one of the three ways of studying the world.
Science can only deal with observations made under controlled and replicable environment.
In order to explore the topics outside of that realm, theology and philosophy are needed.
In this post, I am first going to explain why soul is very likely to exist.
Then, I will go on to say who the God is.
I will end this post with the discussion of the cosmos.
Let’s dive in!
Why Does The Soul Exist, The First Reason
The Earth is currently inhabited by over 8 billion people.
Therefore, we could get born into any of the eight billion people.
Then, why did I specifically get born to be me and not somebody else?
The reason that I don’t have access to other people’s bodies and minds are because the atoms that compose me are not connected to the atoms that make up other people.
Why does it have to be this way?
One possible hypothesis may be that, there’s a queue of souls waiting to be installed into newborns.
This would explain why out of billions of people, we specifically get born into a single individual.
Of course, there’s no evidence as of now that this is true.
However, this still is an interesting possibility.
Some people may try to approach this problem with pure materialism.
This requires the premise that all human beings are nothing more than the collection of atoms.
Then, the reason that we specifically get born into a single individual is because upon fertilization of an egg, a body composed of multiple cells developed and eventually led to the creation of an individual with consciousness.
We didn’t have any chance to get born into other people from the start because all human beings are purely material and are created independently of each other.
This is a compelling possibility.
However, does this stay consistent with the observations that have been made? I’m not sure.
Why Does The Soul Exist, The Second Reason
So let’s examine the pure materialism.
If this were true, then it must be that the existence of consciousness is totally attributable to the nervous system.
If all aspects of the human mind arise only from the brain, it must be that the brain architecture dictates how our minds function.
We know that a brain is composed of multiple neurons and glial cells. Neurons are elongated cells that transmit electrical signal via the mechanism called the action potential. Glial cells provide support to the neurons.
It is at this point that we encounter a dilemma. If human mind were purely material, aspects of consciousness such as qualia should also be explained with brain cells and molecules only.
But this is not the case.
There’s a difference between the pattern of neuronal activation after tasting sourness, for instance, from the experience of sourness.
While it may be possible to show the neural correlates of tasting sourness, that doesn’t lead to the perfect imitation of the experience of sourness itself.
Many of human experiences are ineffable, that is, cannot be expressed with words.
If any scientist can come up with a wonderful hypothesis that explains how action potential and molecular changes create the vivid experiences of everyday life, I too may start believing in pure materialism. However, the challenge, to be honest, seems intractable.
Why Does The Soul Exist, The Third Reason
Qualia is not the only evidence against pure materialism.
Plato talked about idea. That is, how we are able to imagine things that do not exist in real life.
For instance, there’s no way to draw a perfect circle. No matter how hard you try, there always will be at least a slight deviation from the perfect circle.
However, we are capable of comprehending what the circle is.
Even more astonishingly, we can communicate with others about those ideas that do not exist in real life.
Is this really a coincidence?
How To See The God
So assuming that the soul really exists, the seemingly daunting task of meeting the god becomes much easier.
That’s because your soul is the god.
This is in alignment with the trinity.
The God is the father and the son and the holy spirit.
The father is the cosmos, the son Jesus Christ and you are the holy spirit.
So whenever you think and feel, you are meeting the God, because you are the God.
It is not true that only the chosen ones can communicate with the God.
Jesus Christ showed that the God can manifest as a human being.
This means that any human being is fundamentally same as the God.
Everyone is the God, so anyone can see the God inside the self with sufficient investigation of the self.
Therefore, religions should tell people that they can see, meet and become integrated with the God via continuous improvement and investigation of the self.
And About The Cosmos
So you are the cosmos. You are the God.
Of course, during your lifetime, you are alive as a human being.
Even though your soul has huge powers, much of those powers are temporarily inhibited during your lifetime because you are with a human body.
Therefore, we should accept all the limitations that a human body possesses. We must embrace these weaknesses and become self-compassionate.
We should, while accepting our weaknesses, investigate the nature and phenomena, so that we can approach the ultimate truth.
The Last Thing To Discuss
Some people may think, “okay, if the soul really exists, how is it that the state of the brain determines the state of consciousness?”
My answer is, a brain is a device that connects the body with the soul.
For instance, monitor is a device that connects a human with a CPU.
If the monitor gets broken, the connection would be impaired.
Likewise, if a brain suffers a damage, the quality of connection between the body and the soul would deteriorate.
However, it is my belief that upon death, the soul would completely detach itself from the body and become free again.
